About Spiders

Spiders

We have spiders that are harmless and considered a “nuisance”. One relatively harmless but ferocious looking spider common in our area is the “wolf spider”. Some in the entomology field consider most spiders as beneficial in controlling other insects. When you have a lot of spiders you have a lot of other insects that they are feeding on.

Spiders to be aware of in our region:

Brown Recluse spiders prefer dark secluded areas. More common inside. They are 3/8 to 5/8 inches long and light to dark brown in color. 6 eyes arranged in a pair instead of the normal 8 with one pair in front and a pair on either side. Dark violin shape pattern where the legs are attached to the body. They have a painful bite which can cause significant tissue damage and in rare cases death. Most dangerous spider in the U.S.
