About Moles

Moles

Moles are small mammals that live underground. As of 2021 the local population has absolutely skyrocketed. They have cylindrical bodies, velvety fur, and very small eyes and ears. Although their rear pair of legs are short and not to strong, the front set is very powerful with large paws that they use for digging and tunneling. The tunnels created by moles can cause significant damage to lawns over a relatively short period of time and have been known to cause personal injury to humans and pets from walking or running over ground that has been compromised by excessive tunneling.

Moles' diet primarily consists of earthworms and other small invertebrates found in the soil. The mole runs (tunnels) are in reality “worm traps”.

Although slightly different between species the breeding season is generally from February through May. Again, the gestation period is slightly different between species but regardless of this the young are born in March and April.

Moles are solitary creatures, coming together only to mate. Moles avoid each other and males may fiercely fight if they meet.
